New Jersey Crowd Cheers as MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson Reports NY Rep. Chris Collins’s Arrest

As MSNBC host Hallie Jackson announced breaking news about Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), a very early supporter of President Donald Trump, a crowd in Somerville, NJ cheered.

After speaking about the Ohio special election with colleague Garrett Haake, Jackson said: “Congressman Chris Collins, the first member of Congress to back Donald Trump for president, has been arrested. He’s expected to appear in federal court in New York today.”

As she spoke, cheers could be heard at the news from where she was reporting.

“Law enforcement officials say the New York Republican surrendered to the FBI this morning on insider trading charges,” she added.

With her in Somerville was Daniel Goldman, a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who said Collins may be in serious legal jeopardy.

“If he is convicted in this case… he would likely go to jail. I’m still digging through the indictment to try to figure out what the evidence [is] against him. But it looks like it’s a pretty good documentary case.
