Gingrich Breaks News: Says Rep. Tom Price 'Going To Run' For Georgia Senate...
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich joined CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer on Friday where he was asked if he planned to run to replace Sen. Saxby Chambliss who announced that he would not seek reelection in 2014. Gingrich said that he would not run, but he had spoken to Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) who told him that he probably plans to run to replace Chambliss. Price has not yet personally announced his intention to run for U.S. Senate in Georgia.
Blitzer asked Gingrich about Chambliss’ announcement, to which the speaker said that he served the state well in Washington D.C. and will be missed.
“There are congressmen, like Tom Price, who are seriously looking at running,” Gingrich said.
“I do think that the seat – there will be a number of strong candidates running. I think we’ll keep the seat, and I think that it is just a part of the ongoing process,” Gingrich said.
“Tom Price, I think he said that he is not going to run, but maybe he’s going to change his mind.” Blitzer said.
“No, I talked to him today,” Gingrich said. “I think Price is going to run.”
Gingrich himself, however, ruled out a run because he said “the Senate is really hard.” He said he enjoyed the House, but the upper chamber is a “frustrating institution.”
