Newt Gingrich On GOP Diversity: Can’t Give ‘Newest Glib Answer From The Same Guys Who Were Wrong’

In the next Congress, all the House GOP committee chairs will be white males — a fact that hasn’t fared well with many. That may include one Newt Gingrich. Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday, the former Speaker said it is, “by definition, not helpful.”

“I’m going to spend the next four to six months doing a very deep dive into a lessons learned,” he said, “because I think we were so wrong this year as a party.”

Gingrich cited the need to rethink rather than offer “the newest glib answer from the same guys who were wrong.”

He then went on to describe the difference between outreach and inclusion: “Outreach is when five white guys have a meeting and call you…Inclusion is if you’re in the meeting.”

That picture of the House committee chairs, he said, is “a real problem” that the party needs to “confront and recognize.”
