Jeb Bush raised some eyebrows when he told a group of potential donors that his brother, former President George W. Bush is his “most influential counselor” on U.S.-Israel relations. So, it was the first thing CNN’s Jake Tapper brought up when he sat down on Friday with The View co-host Nicolle Wallace, who has a close relationship with both Bush brothers.
Wallace, who was on CNN to promote her new novel, Madam President, began by stressing that she is not currently advising Jeb Bush. But that being said, she pointed out that George W. Bush has been a “strong ally of Israel” and maintains “long and deep relationships” with officials there.
“I think it’s an important issue, it’s going to be an important issue for Hillary Clinton, too,” Wallace added. “I don’t think that Israelis feel that U.S.-Israeli relations are at a high point, so this is going to be a bigger issue in this general election than it has been in the recent past.”
On top of the that, Wallace said, “the notion that you wouldn’t ask every former president of both parties for their advice about vital American alliances is ridiculous.”
