Comedy Central aired the first promo for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore during last night’s Daily Show and Colbert Report block. And the spot tackled head-on what will likely be one of the biggest obstacles for the show: Not many people know who Larry Wilmore is. Of course, one could have said the same thing about Stephen Colbert nine years ago when his show premiered.
In the clip, Wilmore tells some diner patrons about his new show, which will debut on January 19 in the time slot currently occupied by Colbert and cover a more “diverse” array of subjects. With David Letterman staying on the air until the end of May, Wilmore will have at least four months before he starts having to compete with the man he’s replacing.
