North Carolina News Station Apologizes After Anchor Says Santa’s Made Up

Spoiler alert: Santa’s not real! You wouldn’t think that, given how we’ve been fighting for over a week about what race he is, but he isn’t, just so we’re clear. And one North Carolina news anchor just threw that factoid out there during a newscast, and now the station has gone into full apology mode, because of, presumably, all the children young enough to believe in Santa, but not so old that they can’t enjoy watching the local news with mommy.

After wrapping a story on the black 9th grader whose teacher reportedly scolded him because Santa is white, WTVD anchor Anna Laurel playfully said, “Hide your ears, but the Santa of today is made up.”

Weatherman Chris Hohmann attempted to cover and they both just laughed it off, but apparently there were a number of parents none too happy about the “revelation.” Here’s what WTVD posted on its Facebook page, followed by some of the more outraged comments from parents.

By the way, in case there are any kids reading this, this entire post is an April Fool’s Day prank, made all the more insidious by the fact that it’s not actually April Fool’s Day, so just go about your business.
