NRA-Approved Senator Mark Warner Calls For Stricter Gun Laws: ‘Enough Is Enough’

Democratic Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) has long been a proponent of American gun rights but after Friday’s tragic shooting, he’s now saying “enough is enough.”

Warner told Virginia’s local CBS station, WTVR, the issue can no longer be ignored. He described a challenging conversation with his children about the tragedy:

“I’m a father of three daughters and this weekend, they all said, ‘Dad, how can this go on?’ And I, like I think most of us, realize that there are ways to get to rational gun control. There are ways to grapple with the obvious challenges of mental illness. And the idea that we can just kind of ignore this issue — I join with the President, and I think reasonable folks in both parties, and, I think, the overwhelming majority of Americans who are gun owners, who believe that we’ve got to put stricter rules on the books.”

Warner also discussed the need for better mental health care in America:

“Some of these young people that we’ve seen, the situation in Colorado, the situation in Virginia Tech, these are clearly troubled individuals. For their sake, for the safety of the community, we’ve got to make sure that we have better mental health intervention.”

He acknowledged that there won’t be a “perfect law” to stop these tragedies, but said, “it is time for this kind of senseless violence to end.”
