New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman called into CNN tonight to talk about how the paper’s big meeting with Donald Trump went today.
And while she said Trump did engage in a “calm-in-tone diatribe” about their coverage, the meeting was mostly “very cordial.” In fact, Haberman told John Berman, Trump said he believes “having a good relationship with us would make governing easier to him.”
She provided some insight into the things she and others at the Times tweeted about Trump during their on-the-record meeting, including his “retreating” from his more controversial positions and how when it came to questions about his potential business conflicts as president, “he was not hearing any of it.”
Berman asked Haberman if Trump was being serious when he said son-in-law Jared Kushner could tackle Middle East peace. Haberman said, “He was completely serious.”
She also took note of how much Trump backed off on his position on investigating Hillary Clinton.
