President Obama spoke today on yet another mass shooting he’s had to address from the White House during his presidency, this time after last night’s massacre in Orlando. The president made it clear this was “an act of terror and an act of hate” and America is united in its grief and outrage.
Obama avoided getting into details about the gunman or his motivations––it’s believed he was an Islamic extremist loyal to ISIS––but instead said it’s clear the shooters is “filled with hatred,” and he said, “We’ll go wherever the facts lead us.”
The president addressed the grief especially felt by the LGBT community today, because of how the gunman targeted a gay nightclub. Obama declared, “Attacks on any American, regardless of race ethnicity religion or sexual orientation, is an attack on all of us… No act of hate or terror will change who we are or the values that make us Americans.”
He did take a moment to bring up gun control and how easy it is for people to acquire weapons, saying, “To actively do nothing is a decision as well.”
