Obama Dismisses ‘Bogus and Wrong’ Question About Pulling Troops from Iraq

During his Iraq presser today, President Obama got a question on whether he has “any second thoughts about pulling all of the ground troops out of Iraq.” Obama didn’t exactly entertain this as a completely serious notion, dismissing it as a “bogus” argument ginned up by the previous administration to cover their foreign policy blunders.

The president said, “What I just find interesting is the degree to which this issue keeps on coming up, as if this was my decision.” He pointed the finger of blame at both the Bush administration and the Iraqi government, the latter he said could not provide the U.S. certain assurances about protections for U.S. personnel in Iraq.

And so, Obama concluded, “that entire analysis is bogus and is wrong, but gets frequently peddled around here by folks who are often trying to defend previous policies that they themselves made.”
