Obama Engages Heckler During Immigration Speech: ‘I Hear You’

During a speech to students at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, President Barack Obama was briefly interrupted by a heckler who appeared to be complaining that his executive action on immigration does not go far enough in protecting undocumented immigrants.

“Not everyone’s going to qualify under this provision, that’s the truth,” Obama told the heckler. That’s why we’re still going to have to pass a bill.”

“I’ve heard you,” he added. “This is first step, not the only step.” The enthusiastic crowd in attendance drowned out the man with chants of “Si se puede!” while the president attempted to continue on with his speech. “I’ve been respectful to you,” Obama said. “I want you to be respectful to me.”
