President Barack Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia Monday morning, as part of a morning of activities paying tribute to the nation’s soldiers on Veterans Day.
As in years past, Obama hosted veterans and their families for a breakfast at the White House, before traveling to Arlington for the somber wreath laying ceremony.
“Thank you to that greatest generation who fought island by island across the Pacific, and freed millions from fascism in Europe,” Obama said in his weekly radio address this weekend. “Thank you to the heroes who risked everything through the bitter cold of Korea and the stifling heat of Vietnam. And thank you to all the heroes who have served since, most recently our 9/11 Generation of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.”
