Obama Spox on Report Women Make Less in White House: ‘We Can Always Do Better’
White House Assistant to the President and Director of Communications Jennifer Palmieri appeared Tuesday on MSNBC with Chris Jansing to address a report which indicates that the women in the White House make less than their male counterparts. She said that all White House employees in equivalent positions make the same, but they can “do better” by hiring more women to take higher profile roles.
“I make the same amount of money as my counterpart, Jay Carney,” Palmieri said. “We have the same amount as women — heads of departments as men.”
Jansing clarified that the study, prepared by the American Enterprise Institute, used the same formula which the White House uses when they claim that women on average make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes.
“You can always do — we can always do better by having more women in senior places,” Palmieri asserted. “But, is our pay transparent? Yes it is.”
