‘ObamaCareNado’: Karl Rove’s Super PAC Tries To Harness To Viral Power Of #Sharknado

When Karl Rove saw Twitter explode over the spectacle that was Syfy’s Sharknado, he must have thought, ‘Hey, that seems like a pretty great way to scare people about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.” Thus, “ObamaCareNado” was born.

“Just when you thought it was safe to go to the doctor,” the ominous voice-over intones as a terrifying tornado with President Obama‘s face on it begins tearing cities to shreds. The 45 sec online spot attempts to include bits and pieces of largely context-less sound bites about the dangers of Obamacare, including the apparently terrifying sight of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid calling the law “wonderful for America.” But the impression it leaves is far less about substance and far more about scaring the bejesus out of Americans and perpetuating the narrative that the law will destroy health care as we know it in this country.

“The perfect storm is coming,” the narrator says at the end of the parody trailer. “Are you ready?” And if you weren’t already scared of Obamacare, what about now?
