Ocasio-Cortez Responds to Fox News, GOP Mocking Her and Green New Deal: They Made ‘Total Fools of Themselves’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she expected Fox News to mock her Green New Deal. She was a bit surprised, however, that they made such “fools of themselves” in the process.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes started off the conversation during the town hall event by showing a montage of Fox News clips claiming that the Green New Deal would “get rid of hamburgers” and calling it “radical environmental socialism.”

“I just want to give a taste of it’s a 24-hour on Trump TV, in the conservative movement, it’s 24-hour AOC-GND,” Hayes said before the clip aired.

Then, afterward, he asked: “The infamous Stalin five-year program to get rid of hamburgers. Were you expecting that?”

In response, Ocasio-Cortez said she was “100%” expecting that kind of response.

“That? They took it to 11,” Hayes pressed.

“It is next level,” the freshman Congresswoman replied. “I didn’t expect them to make total fools of themselves.”

The crowd applauded.

She then suggested what she thought would happen was “a little more nuance and I expected a little more concern trolling” before defending her positions, including those on cow flatulence.

“It is an issue… but it doesn’t mean you end cows,” she explained, downplaying concerns she was trying to end burgers forever.
