And lo, upon the studios of Fox News one Friday the 13th did Sean Hannity engage in a fiery duel in the War on Christmas™ against David Silverman, the president of American Atheists. Aided by loyal foot soldier Todd Starnes, Hannity engaged Silverman in a battle of words over the atheist display in Times Square and whether he’s just trying to deliberately offend people.
Silverman contended Christmas is “better without the religion” and no one really enjoys going to church on the holidays anyway. Hannity and Starnes responded by asking if Silverman would dare publicly attack Islam like this (they have).
They fought over a nativity scene that was removed from a military base, and Starnes mockingly explained that atheists were “so traumatized by the site of this plastic Jewish family,” but Silverman shot back that a great number of people who objected were actually Christians who understand what separation of church and state means.
Silverman said he’s offended when Christian material is displayed on government property, leading Hannity to cry, “Oh, you poor innocent victim!” Hannity accused Silverman of engaging in stunts to raise money, to which Silverman retorted, “Pot, nice to meet you, kettle!”
