Oops: Kathie Lee Gifford Asks Martin Short Why He Still Loves His (Deceased) Wife
While promoting his new movie, Madascar III, on the Today show Wednesday morning, actor Martin Short took some time to answer questions about his family, discussing his younger son’s recent graduation, sweetly “dad bragging” about his older children’s successful careers, and answering host Kathie Lee Gifford‘s questions about how his marriage to his deceased wife is going.
Short, to his credit, took the questions in stride, sharing that he’d been married to his wife for 36 years. “But you’re still, like, in love,” continued Gifford.
“Madly in love. Madly,” said Short, as hearts broke all around America.
But Gifford wasn’t done: “Why?”
“Cute. I’m cute,” he joked.
“And you make each other laugh…” Gifford continued. Co-host Hoda Kotb then changed the subject with a “speaking of making each other laugh… you’ve got something in that bag.”
A quick check on Wikipedia shows that Short’s wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away on August 21st, 2010. The two had met in 1972 during a run of Godspell and wed eight years later.
