On his show Tuesday night, Bill O’Reilly took note of Justin Combs — son of Sean “Diddy” Combs — who received a full athletic scholarship to the University of California at Los Angeles. Diddy is worth around $500 million, O’Reilly said, but can’t pay for his son’s education? Guests Monica Crowley and Alan Colmes broke with O’Reilly on the topic, showing no major objection to the scholarship.

“I have no problem with this whatsoever,” Crowley said. “The United States is supposed to be a merit-based society.” As far as we know, Combs as a 3.75 GPA and is a “superstar defensive back” who is going to play for UCLA. And the money isn’t coming from any taxpayer funds. Yes, O’Reilly agreed (never failing to emphasize the way he says “Diddy”), credit where it’s due.

Colmes chimed in, alarmed that he and Crowley agreed on something. “Maybe he doesn’t want parental assistance,” he said, and wants

to be independent. That’s a “nice conservative point of view.” But, O’Reilly argued, there’s a finite number of scholarships, so they should have stepped back, letting someone else take the scholarship. Someone who needs it more. Crowley conceded this isn’t entirely wrong.

“We are in this class warfare business,” O’Reilly said, and Diddy is an Obama guy. Challenged on the class warfare assertion, O’Reilly responded, “He is down, as they say in the hood, with all of the income distribution.” Colmes critically inferred, “Class warfare simply because he supports Barack Obama.”

At the end, O’Reilly concluded that Diddy could set a great example by acknowledging the scholarship, but letting someone with more financial need take it.
