Bill O’Reilly: Liberal Press Is Very Upset I’m Being Mean to Colbert
Bill O’Reilly closed his show Monday night by acknowledging the attention he got last week for comments he made about Stephen Colbert replacing David Letterman, and O’Reilly couldn’t help but find it amusing that “the liberal press is very upset” that he’s “being mean to Colbert.”
O’Reilly’s harshest comments about Colbert came before the Late Show news, calling the late night comedian a left-wing “deceiver” who does “damage because he gives cover to powerful people who are selling Americans a big lie that this country is bad.” Tonight O’Reilly admitted he couldn’t understand why his comments about Colbert have gotten such attention.
He sarcastically called Jon Stewart a “communist sympathizer,” but at least credited him for mocking both sides when appropriate, taking a shot at Colbert because he’s “made a living exclusively satirizing the right.”
O’Reilly warned that won’t be enough to beat Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel because he’s already alienated a significant percentage of the country. He concluded, “My analysis of him has been to-the-point and honest, and as you know, that drives zealots on both sides completely crazy.”
