O’Reilly: Like Clintons, I Know What It’s Like to Be ‘Dishonestly Smeared’

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly dedicated the opening of his show Thursday night to the major accusations against Bill and Hillary Clinton to emerge from Peter Schweizer’s new book, Clinton Cash. But while the host did say the claims raise many “questions” about the Clinton Foundation’s dealings with the Russians and a company known as Uranium One, he also gave them the benefit of the doubt, as someone who himself as been “dishonestly smeared.”

“Accusations mounting that while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used her position to enrich the Clinton Foundation by doing favors for foreign governments and corporations,” O’Reilly said at the top of his “Talking Points Memo” segment. “If true, that would likely eliminate Mrs. Clinton from the presidential race — if true. Right now the evidence is circumstantial, not vetted, and the subject of wild speculation by anti-Clinton forces.”

After explaining the damaging details of the story as it stands now, O’Reilly said, “the appearance of impropriety is staggering and the defense is paltry to say the least.” The host called for an investigation into the Clinton Foundation’s finances, but added, “I want to make it very clear that the Clintons are to be given the presumption of innocence. As one who has been dishonestly smeared, I loathe political hit jobs. But there are major questions here, and they must, must be answered.”
