In a day marked heavily by strong anti-Muslim sentiment from Donald Trump, Bill O’Reilly said tonight, “There really isn’t any evidence that Muslims are being mistreated in the USA.”
He cited statistics on religious hate crimes and showed that 57 percent of them have been carried out against Jews, while only 16 percent have been carried out against Muslims. He then wondered why President Obama is “making such a big deal” about Muslims when “Jews are at far greater risk in the USA.”
Former CIA operative Joshua Katz said Obama is just building a “fear base.” O’Reilly said “there hasn’t been any anti-Muslim stuff to speak of” and noted how the country was “tremendously restrained” after 9/11, so the president is “making a political issue out of something that doesn’t really exist now.”
When Katz said there’s “no hate against Muslims,” O’Reilly did say there’s “suspicion,” hence why Trump’s proposal won’t hurt him in the polls. He wondered if Obama’s strategy of “making Muslims sympathetic” is worthy in the age of the war on terror.
Katz said no because it “feeds into the jihad.”
