The founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation appeared on The O’Reilly Factor Thursday night to discuss, as he recently wrote on The Huffington Post, the “fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces.”
Bill O’Reilly challenged Mikey Weinstein on his assessment of the military as “corrupt,” especially when it comes to protecting gay soldiers, now that the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy has been removed, from systematic harassment. Weinstein also highlighted what he sees as an “Islamophobic” culture in the military and asserted that the U.S. should not appear to be “Christian crusaders” to our enemies.
As an example, Weinstein pointed to the so-called “Jesus rifles” story that his organization helped to break back in 2010, which revealed the military had inscribed New Testament biblical citations on rifle scopes. Weinstein said things have gotten somewhat better under the more “secular” Obama administration, but the overall problem still persists.
