Paul Ryan on New Trump Ad Attacking Dems: ‘I Don’t Know If That’s Necessarily Productive’

Speaker Paul Ryan said this morning he’s not sure if the new Trump campaign ad attacking Democrats on immigration is necessarily “productive.”

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the Trump campaign put out an ad yesterday––in the middle of shutdown negotiations––saying that if Democrats keep standing in the way on immigration, they “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants.”

On CBS’ Face the Nation, John Dickerson asked Ryan, “Are Democrats complicit?”

Ryan didn’t address the ad directly and instead said they’re “certainly not helping us” on the shutdown and on immigration.

Dickerson pressed him on the ad and Ryan said, “I’m not gonna comment on––I just saw that, I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no secret the President has strong views on immigration, but what is not productive is a pointless government shutdown that the Senate Democrats have foisted on this country.”
