Indiana governor Mike Pence went out of sync with his running mate today when he said he’ll endorse Paul Ryan for re-election while Donald Trump is holding out on his support.
Pence phoned in for an interview with Jenna Lee for Fox’s Happening Now, where they discussed the frustrations of Trump’s GOP allies as they continue through a tough campaign week. Lee noted reports of angst from within Trump’s campaign, some of which have to do with Trump not reciprocating Ryan’s support and backing him in his re-election campaign.
“These are two men building a good relationship,” Pence said, and he insisted that they will come together eventually. He went on to say that unlike Trump, he will “strongly support” Ryan in his effort.
Lee persisted by asking Pence about the signs critics point to that say he and Trump are “out of step” by their contrasting approaches to issues. Pence said that those indications were nonsense and that Trump gave him his blessing to support the House Speaker.
Pence also held a meeting recently with John McCain, another Congressional figure for whom Trump is holding off re-election support.
