Photo Emerges of 9-Year-Old Katie Ledecky Meeting Her Swimming Idol… Michael Phelps

Without a doubt, 19-year-old swimming sensation Katie Ledecky has been one of biggest storylines to emerge from the Rio Olympics. The Summer games in Brazil are not even yet a week old, and already she has earned two gold medals — in the Women’s 200m freestyle and Women’s 400m freestyle — to go along with her silver in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. The Washington D.C. product even set a world record in the 400m Monday night, and added to the gold she earned four years ago in London.

Although she may still have a long way to go to catch up to the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time Michael Phelps (who casually won his 20th and 21st career gold medals last night), there’s no denying Ledecky has always looked up to the swimming great. And now, thanks to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, we have the photographic proof:

It shows a 21-year-old Phelps donning a Detroit Tigers hat signing autographs for young eager fans, including the future gold medalist herself. The image has already been Retweeted more than 17,000 times.

Am I the only one curious to know what the girl standing behind Ledecky is up to these days?

And as if that weren’t enough, Rovell Tweeted out a another image provided by the Ledecky family that shows an even younger Katie with legend of a different kind:

And as for Rio, Ledecky still has the Women’s 800m freestyle to compete in on Thursday, so she may not be done just yet!
