Piers Morgan battled Republican congressman Sean Duffy on Monday night over who’s really to blame for the impending government shutdown. Duffy insisted the Republicans have compromised far more than the Democratic-controlled Senate, but Morgan found that a “ridiculous” notion and told Duffy that all Republicans have succeeded in doing is they “made the whole world laugh at you!”
Morgan asked Duffy how he can be “proud” that a “renegade element” of the GOP is fighting just to “paralyze the government of the United States.” Duffy shot back that some Democrats joined them on one of the bills they passed tonight, arguing with Morgan over the merits of the health care law. At one point Morgan had too much and laid into Duffy.
“Of course there are issues with Obamacare! It’s a massive program, and those issues should be explored and debated… However, the idea that a small group of Republicans have decided to simply shut down the government over this is a shameful dereliction of your duty!”
Duffy insisted, “I want to keep the government open.” Morgan immediately fired back, “No you don’t! You want to shut it down!” They kept arguing back and forth over who’s really to blame, with Morgan pressing Duffy to say if he will furlough his own salary.
