Piers Morgan has had to do a little bit of everything to get closer to his guests (though sometimes too close), though yesterday he may have gone above and beyond the call of duty with world pound-for-pound boxing champion/Congressman/movie star Manny Pacquiao. After his interview with the champion, Morgan decided to put on the gloves himself and hit for a few minutes with the trainer before taking on Pacquiao himself. Watch him as he declares victory after landing a sloppy punch somewhere in the vicinity of Pacquiao’s glove, launching a thousand “people less cowardly than Floyd Mayweather” jokes!
There is a lot to like in this clip, and not just for the typical “Piers Morgan engaging in athletic activity” reasons of comedy. For example, there is Pacquiao’s pretty hilarious and out-of-nowhere Scottish accent, in which he declares he is fighting Morgan for liberation from the English. There is the fact that Morgan (of course) declares victory while Pacquiao stares at him confusedly, this after a few minutes of grumbling about being tired and “why am I here?” sort of talk. And for boxing fans, there is the added bonus of adding another name to the long list of people who don’t seem to have as big of a problem with Pacquiao’s suspected “steroid use” as Floyd Mayweather, and who can also deliver a far more entertaining fight than the undefeated, extremely-picky-about-opponents-who-could-beat-him boxer.
