Plane With Over 100 on Board Crashes Shortly After Take-Off from Havana Airport
A plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the Cuban city of Havana on Friday.
The Cubana de Aviacion Boeing 737 fell from the sky in a fireball just after leaving Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport on Friday, according to Cuba’s state-run television.
Cuba’s state-run newspaper Granma also reported the crash happened in the Santiago de las Vegas neighborhood near the airport just after noon. The reports were confirmed by CBS and CNN, among other outlets.
The domestic flight was headed to Holguin approximately 500 miles from Havana. There were 104 passengers on board as well as the crew. CNN is reporting at least three survivors.
CNN obtained video of the scene reportedly showing a huge plume of smoke coming from the crash site.

Witnesses also reported to CNN a huge fireball before seeing the plumes of smoke.
There is no word on the number of casualties yet or the possible cause of the crash.
Fire and rescue crews are on the scene.
