Politico Reporter: When I Asked About Being Blocked from Gaggle, Aide Said ‘You’re Threatening Me’

Politico White House correspondent Tara Palmeri said on MSNBC this afternoon that she received a rather odd response yesterday after asking about being barred from the press gaggle.

She described how the press aide was allowing certain reporters to come in, and that she tried to ask for a statement about why she and others weren’t allowed in.

The aide’s response, Palmeri explained, was “You’re threatening me.”

As far as she’s concerned, however, this is just a big distraction from the bigger news about Reince Priebus and the FBI.

Palmeri’s account of what happened is corroborated by New York Daily News Washington bureau chief Cameron Joseph:

As I and other reporters sought clarity on what the criteria were for who made the cut and who would be barred, [deputy press secretary Stephanie] Grisham ordered us out of the hallway area we’d crowded into, sending us back to the briefing room — and asked Secret Service to help herd us back.

When Politico’s Tara Palmeri asked for comment on what protocol they were using since she would be writing a story about the unusual events, Grisham said “you’re threatening me” and asked reporters to email her for an explanation.
