On Wednesday afternoon, NBC newsman Brian Williams recanted a story claiming that the helicopter containing him and his crew in Iraq had been shot down by an RPG.
As it turns out, the Nightly News anchor was not in the aircraft that was taken down. His recanting of the story (and subsequent apology) came as the 159th Aviation Regiment told Stars and Stripes that Williams was “nowhere near” the attack in question. And yet the broadcasting legend has been telling the story for years, in speeches and interviews.
Williams apologized on-air last night, chalking up his false storytelling to the haze of memory over a decade. NBC has yet to officially comment on the situation, but let’s ask you, the loyal Mediaite reader: Should NBC fire Williams?
Take the Mediaite poll below. (Oh, and BTW, Williams haters and/or diehard loyalists, you can only vote once, so don’t even try.)
