President Obama: An Orderly Transition Process Is Needed In Egypt Right Now

President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper held a joint press conference today in which questions about the current upheaval in Egypt were front and center. The president chose his words carefully, but was rather stern in his assessment. “The future of Egypt is in the hands of Egyptians,” Obama stated, before turning to a more austere tone, adding “Going back to the old ways is not going to work, suppression is not going to work. Engaging in violence is not going to work.”

The key question embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should be asking himself right now, according to Obama, is “how do I leave a legacy behind in which Egypt is able to get through this transitional period.” Watch the clip courtesy of C SPAN below:
