While President Barack Obama was here in New York yesterday filming his Tonight Show appearance (somehow I always get caught in traffic from the man’s motorcade), he used the opportunity to take a measured and joking swipe at the presumptive nominee of the Republican party, Donald Trump.
The full Tonight Show episode isn’t set to air until tonight, but CNN’s Don Lemon previewed a portion of the interview where host Jimmy Kimmel asked the President, “Do you think Republicans are happy with their choice?”
Without hesitation and with all the wit we’ve come to expect after years of slaying the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Obama cooly replied, “We are.” The Democratic party President is expected to offer his endorsement of his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton any day now, perhaps after his scheduled meeting with underdog challenger Bernie Sanders.
The President shed some light on what people can expect out of him throughout the rest of the 2016 cycle. “The role I’m going to be playing in this process,” he said to Fallon, “is to remind the American people: this is a serious job. This is not reality TV.”
Check out the above clip from NBC via CNN, and tune in to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET for the full episode featuring the President.
