Near the start of President Trump‘s rally in Cedar Rapids, IA, he was disrupted by a group of protesters as he began giving praise to Rep. Steve Scalise who is still recovering in the hospital after the shooting last week.
Just as he wanted to send thoughts and prayers to his “courageous friend,” whistles began blowing and echoed loudly in the arena. The crowd booed the protestors.
“Never fails,” Trump reacted.
As the protestors were being escorted out, the crowd began chanting “USA! USA!”
“And we love our police!” he exclaimed, causing the crowd to cheer.
He eventually continued with his remarks about Scalise, saying, “We’re praying for you, we’re pulling for you, you have our absolute support and our deepest admiration.”
President Trump also expressed gratitude to the Capitol police officers who saved many lives at that shooting.
Before moving on to the rest of his speech, he said, “Hopefully our nation emerges from this ordeal… more unified and more determined than ever before and I can see it and we are indeed more unified in our own way than ever before. You just have to take a look at what’s happening here.”
