Pro-Joe Biden Group Launches TV Ad Ahead of Next Week’s CNN Debate
On Wednesday, a pro-Joe Biden group called Draft Joe Biden previewed a new television advertisement set to air ahead of next week’s CNN debate on YouTube.
Titled “My Redemption,” the 90-second ad contrasts old photos of Biden, his first wife Neili, and first U.S. Senate election campaign with color footage of a two-line snowy road and voice over from his May 17, 2015 speech at Yale University Class Day. The comparison is meant to suggest the story of Biden’s loss, when Neili and his one-year-old daughter Naomi were killed on a similar road a week before Christmas 1972.
Beau Biden, the vice president’s older son who died two weeks after the Yale speech, is never directly mentioned in the ad. However, considering its focus on Biden’s many losses and rejoinders, the implication is definitely there.
According to their website, the Super PAC “[believes] there could be no stronger candidate in the race to lead us than Vice President Joe Biden.” The ad is the first of many the group hopes to produce and air while they prepare for Biden’s possible entry in key early states like New Hampshire, South Carolina and Iowa.
