Psaki: Obama Won’t Mention Navy Boats in SOTU, Will ‘Absolutely’ Still Tout Iran Deal

psakiWhite House communications director Jen Psaki said on CNN tonight that President Obama still plans to tout the Iran deal, even with the breaking news of two Navy ships and 10 sailors being seized in Iran.

There are plenty of concerns that this may be more than just due to reported mechanical failures, and Wolf Blitzer asked Psaki if the president plans on addressing the big news today in his address. Psaki said he will not.

She did, however, say that Obama will “absolutely” tout the Iran nuclear deal as one of his biggest achivements in office. Blitzer pointed out that plenty of people in Congress (including Democrats) are opposed to that deal.

He also observed it would be “awkward” if Obama touts the deal but avoids comment on the seized Navy boats.
