Rachel Maddow Producer Reportedly Taking Over The View (UPDATED)
The View’s creative evolution ahead of this fall’s new season with reportedly include a new executive producer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Wolff, executive producer of The Rachel Maddow Show and MSNBC’s vice-president of primetime programming will leave that network later this month to take over the ABC daytime talk show.
Wolff will replace Bill Geddie, who co-created The View with Barbara Walters in 1997 and has served as its executive producer ever since. His presumed departure follows that of Walters, who went into semi-retirement earlier this year.
After Walters left, both Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced they were leaving the show, meaning moderator Whoopi Goldberg was the only remaining full-time host. Shortly after that news broke, ABC confirmed that Rosie O’Donnell would be returning to the show in the fall.
The View is reportedly looking for at least two more regular hosts with possible candidates making appearances as guest-hosts this summer. CNN’s S.E. Cupp has been a frequent presence on this show over the last few weeks and likely has a connection of some sorts to Wolff from her days as a host on MSNBC’s The Cycle. Another name that has been thrown around, Alicia Menendez, appeared on MSNBC regularly before launching her own show on Fusion this past year.
UPDATE: 08/07/14 – MSNBC has confirmed Wolff’s departure.
