Rahm Emanuel: Arizona Shooting Is A Crisis That Should Go To Waste
At a news conference today, Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel was haunted by his past statement about exploiting a crisis for benefit. When asked if the Arizona shooting is a crisis that shouldn’t go to waste, Emanuel emphatically said “no” and also was able to elaborate on exactly what his original crisis statement was.
“First of all, what I said is never allow a good crisis go to waste when it’s an opportunity to do things that you had never considered or what you didn’t think were possible. That’s not intended for this moment nor does it apply to this moment.”
Maybe Emanuel needs to have a chat with Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter who just yesterday suggested how President Obama could turn the “tragedy into triumph” and quoted Rahm’s very quote about a crisis. Emanuel went on to say in the news conference that Congresswoman Giffords is a friend who he campaigned with and that he began the type of event that Giffords was attending when she was shot.
