Reacting to the speculation that Gov. Rick Perry may seek the GOP’s presidential nod in 2016, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) joked last night that there are three good reasons the Texas governor should run for president — he just can’t remember the third one.
Perry announced on Monday afternoon that he will not seek re-election in 2014, leading many to speculate that he will instead run for president in the 2016 cycle. Sen. Paul, another early favorite to seek the GOP nomination, mocked the governor by referencing his infamous gaffe from a 2012 GOP primary debate, in which Perry could not remember the third of three governmental agencies he’d like to eliminate:
“If Governor Perry decides to run for president, I think there are three good reasons he could be president: Texas is a big, successful state; he’s a long term government; and, uh, I can’t remember the third one.”
“That’s very good!” Hannity guest host Eric Bolling said with a hearty laugh. “Well done, Senator Paul.”
