Rand Paul: ‘Very Good Chance’ Hillary Lied During Benghazi Hearing
Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul said on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom that there was a “very good chance” that Hillary Clinton lied when she testified to Senate Foreign Relations Committee that she didn’t know anything about arms transfers to and from Libya.
When questioned by Paul in 2013, Clinton claimed not to know anything about any arms deals being brokered from the Benghazi consulate attacked on September 11, 2012. But reporting from Fox’ Catherine Herridge last month indicated that “the United States supported the secret supply of weapons to Libyan rebels while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.”
“I find it very hard to believe Hillary Clinton didn’t know,” Paul told host Bill Hemmer. “In fact, she was the biggest cheerleader for sending these arms and redistributing these arms into Syrian rebels [sic].”
Paul noted the issue was important because many of the arms could have found their way into the arms of American enemies. ”I don’t think our public officials should be allowed to come before congressional committees and lie,” he said.
“Well you dropped the l-word,” Hemmer said. “Was she lying, Senator?”
“I think there is a very good chance,” he responded. “Because I think there is no way that Hillary Clinton did not know about this. Her private emails show that she was the one supporting arming these people.”
