Last week, news broke that Saturday Night Live head-writer Seth Meyers was the front-runner to replace Regis Philbin as co-host of Live, news that forced comedy fans the world over to rethink everything they thought they knew about television, careers, and the universe at large (“But SNL is cool…and Live is not cool…oh, God, MY HEAD! IT HURTS!”). Fortunately, those sketch comedy fans whose heads didn’t explode too badly, can relax like Massive Head Wound Harry (SNL reference, get it?) knowing that the story is apparently not true.
“’No, no, no, no, no,’ Meyers said by phone from New York on Monday afternoon. ‘I know [Reege’s replacement] is a very important thing down there. But, right now, what I would say to you: I’m really in love with the job I have. I’m very excited to be going back [to ‘SNL’] for the election season, which is always fun.’”
Thank God. That was a close save.
Now Meyers can finish his time as head-writer and look forward to the incredibly successful post-SNL career that all of the show’s cast members enjoy!
