Rep. DeSantis Says Maxine Waters ‘Unfit to Serve’ For Rhetoric, Fox News Host Says: What About Trump?

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) appeared on Fox News Tuesday to call for the censure and resignation of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) over her comments this weekend suggesting Trump officials should face public harassment because of the administration’s policies.

DeSantis’s plea against heated political rhetoric came days after a member of his finance team was reportedly suspended from Fox News for telling a black guest he was out of his “cotton-picking mind.”

“I think the hard left in this country is just totally off the rails, and Maxine Waters is really the pied piper for the unhinged left with her rantings and ravings,” DeSantis said. “I’m proud to be leading an effort with a few of my colleagues to censure her in the house and ask for her resignation. I don’t think she is fit to serve with that.”

DeSantis noted that Waters’ rhetoric comes a year after a left-wing shooter opened fire on a GOP Congressional baseball practice, wounding Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA). He also pointed out that Florida’s Attorney General Pam Bondi was harassed by protestors at a film over the weekend.

Fox News host Eric Shawn asked DeSantis for his response to those who argue that President Donald Trump is responsible for the decline in civil discourse ( Trump has urged people at his rallies to beat the shit out of protestors, even offering to pay their legal fees).

DeSantis dodged, offering this ambling response:

“Well look, I think that when you are in a situation like this, where this president has come in, and this has been the response of people like Maxine to him, they were never — they never gave him a chance on day one to have a civil disagreement. She wanted to impeach him I think before he even got sworn into office for Pete’s sake! I remember his election and inauguration. There was resist, resist, was the mantra from day one. There was never an attempt to have a dialogue with this president.”
