Rep. Ilhan Omar Says She’s ‘Absolutely Not’ Worried About Losing Committee Assignments

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D- MN) was condemned by Democratic leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for perpetuating anti-Semitic tropes in her tweets yesterday.

Omar posted an apology saying, “Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes.”

“At the same time,” she added, “I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry.”

Congresswoman Omar was asked by a reporter tonight if she was “surprised by the criticism.” Omar responded, “Always surprised.”

When asked if she’s concerned about losing committee assignments, she responded, “Absolutely not.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin (R- NY) tweeted that she should lose her committee assignments, bringing up the action Republicans took against Steve King. Per Roll Call, Democratic leaders aren’t planning to take that action.
