Rep. Matt Gaetz Clashes With Fox News Host For Claiming Dems Just Want Impeachment

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), clashed with a Fox News contributor while guest-hosting Outnumbered on Friday over calls to impeach President Donald Trump.

During a segment on newly-elected Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) calling for the impeachment of “motherf*cker” Trump, Gaetz said he thinks Democrats will actually end up impeaching the president in the House — but not convicting in the Republican-controlled Senate.

“This is the new left,” Gaetz continued. “This is where the energy is in the Democratic party. Not to bring solutions on health care, not to work with us on immigration, not to pass an infrastructure bill, but to impeach Donald Trump.”

Gaetz added that he did not think Democratic leadership could control the “activists” in their party. As the Outnumbered hosts joked about co-host Leslie Marshall‘s reaction to the congressman’s comments, Gaetz said: “I’ll allow you to disagree.”

“Oh you’ll allow me to disagree?” Marshall, a liberal radio host, fired back. “I’ll give you a pass on that one. You may be wearing blue but I’m the Democrat.”

Marshall argued that only 43 Democrats have said they’re on board with impeachment, while the majority of Democrats — including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — are not yet on board with impeachment.

“It’s too soon,” she added, saying most Democrats are waiting for the findings of the Mueller probe.

Gaetz pointed out that polls have shown most Democratic voters support impeachment, though Marshall denied that was the case.

According to a recent Politico/Morning Consult poll, while overall only 33 percent of Americans support impeaching Trump, 61 percent of Democrats are in favor of doing so.
