Rep. Peter King Gets Heated With Ryan Lizza Over Alleged NYPD Racial Profiling
On Monday’s edition of CNN Starting Point, Congressman Peter King (R-NY) tussled with New Yorker writer Ryan Lizza over alleged profiling in the New York Police Department.
“What is your position on profiling in general? Do you have any problem with it?” Lizza pressed. “Is your position that the NYPD is completely above criticism, and that they simply can do no wrong? It seems to me that the media has brought some pretty legitimate issues up and that it’s not quite right to defend the NYPD just unilaterally, which sounds like what you’re doing. So could you respond to that?”
“First of all, there is no profiling,” King countered. “That’s the nonsense people like you and others are propagating.”
“I’m not propagating anything,” Lizza shot back. “I’m saying there are questions raised about what the NYPD is doing.”
“I’m telling you there is no profiling so take that back, there is no profiling,” King continued. “You have no evidence.”
King and Lizza then sparred over whether the media is acting irresponsibly in their accusations against the NYPD, with host Brooke Baldwin interjecting that “You bring up very valid points, Ryan Lizza.”
“They’re not valid points,” an annoyed King interjected.
“We’re going to agree to disagree here,” Baldwin replied.
