Rep. Tells Fox Dems Won’t Participate in Benghazi Committee: ‘Colossal Waste of Time’
Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace that he would not recommend congressional Democrats participate in the just-announced Select Committee on Benghazi. “I don’t think it makes sense for us to give this select committee any more credibility than it deserves, and frankly I don’t think it deserves very much,” he said.
“I think it’s a colossal waste of time,” Schiff told Wallace. “We’ve had four bipartisan investigations of this already…I don’t think it makes sense really for Democrats to participate. It’s just a tremendous red herring, and a waste of taxpayer resources. I hope the Speaker reconsiders, but it looks as though he has bowed to those on the farthest right of his conference.”
The investigation seeming like a partisan witch hunt was likely one of several reasons Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has avoided appointing a select committee thus far.
“The Republican conference is so fractured, there’s only two things they can agree on,” Schiff continued. “They don’t like Obamacare, so we’ve had fifty votes on that. And they do like talking about Benghazi, so we’ve had four investigations on that.”
