According to The Hollywood Reporter, former NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker has been signed to produce a possible new spy series based on a series of books by Daniel Silva. Universal has picked up the rights to the books–ten of them, selling about 25 million copies–about Gabriel Allon, a former Israeli intelligence operative turned art restorer.
Zucker has been preparing for the next phase of his career after his high-profile departure from NBC, a company where he spent the entirety of his career. He’s talked about producing–even finance. But for this spy series, why Zucker? THR says he’s got an inside track:
Because of an existing friendship with Silva, Zucker agreed to serve as producer, although sources familiar with the project said that the former NBC Uni head, who has yet to announce his further plans, is not looking at a full-time career as a film producer. Silva will be involved as exec producer on the film adaptations.
