Research Found Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck Too ‘Polarizing’ On The View, Report Says

Earlier this week, Barbara Walters addressed the reports surrounding the departure of Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View. While Behar’s exit was already confirmed, Walters denied that Hasselbeck was ousted for her conservative views that didn’t allegedly didn’t sit well with viewers. Whether you buy the denial or not, a new report adds some interesting research to mix. Behar and Hasselbeck, it says, were “polarizing.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC commissioned a study, which found that viewers didn’t take well to the political views Behar and Hasselbeck expressed on the show. The report cited sources who said they were too “polarizing.” That “they’re out of sync with the audience.”

Whether the co-hosts knew about the research was unclear — and whether it prompted Behar’s decision to leave. In Hasselbeck’s case, Us Weekly reported that she was being ousted for being too extreme:

“The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing,” the insider tells Us. “People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.”

Walters, however, said that wasn’t the case. “We value and appreciate her point of view; it’s important to us, because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. And believe me, she’s tougher than she looks,” she said. “We have no plans for Elisabeth to leave this show.”
