Rick Sanchez Conducting First Post-Firing Interview On Good Morning America Tomorrow
Tomorrow, newly-unemployed Rick Sanchez will grant his first interview since he was fired from CNN last week, and – surprise! – Keith Olbermann’s not getting it. Rather, he’s heading over to ABC, where Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos bring Sanchez onto Good Morning America.
The morning show seems a good format for Sanchez to return to the public eye – he won’t likely face especially tough questions, so it should be a solid image rehabilitation session. And he’s making the appearance only a week after his firing, so he’ll get some points for not hiding from his problems. Releasing a statement is one thing, but actually putting himself out there on national television is the true sign he’s ready to discuss the incident.
On that note, it’ll be interesting to see exactly what Sanchez is asked, and how he responds. Lawrence O’Donnell last night gave a good example of how to handle an on-air apology – but of course, he had his own show with which to do it. Whether or not he’s facing tough questions, Sanchez will be answering to someone else.
The initial post-controversy interview is a significant step for Sanchez to take in the wake of his significant misstep, and good on him for taking it in short order. However, we can also safely say this isn’t the Rick Sanchez interview everyone would really like to see. That honor goes to whenever – if ever – Sanchez goes on The Daily Show.
