Rick Santorum Suspends Presidential Campaign

Rick Santorum is suspending his Presidential campaign.

Santorum called Mitt Romney to say he was conceding
the race for the Republican nomination
, Yahoo News’s Chris Moody reports.

Santorum had a roller coaster ride of a Presidential campaign, initially getting no recognition from the media or voters until he came from behind to win the Iowa caucus. In sum, Santorum won a total of 11 states during his run for the Republican nomination including Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Colorado, Tennessee, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Despite his best efforts, he ultimately was unable to keep up with Romney in the delegate race.

“On this day, April 10, 2012, it became a general election between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama,” CNN’s Wolf Blitzer declared.

Mitt Romney released a statement saying:

“Senator Santorum is an able and worthy competitor, and I congratulate him on the campaign he ran. He has proven himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation. We both recognize that what is most important is putting the failures of the last three years behind us and setting America back on the path to prosperity.”
