RNC Chair Downplays Trump’s Attacks on Sessions: Just ‘Letting Him Know That He’s Not Happy’
RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel spoke this afternoon with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, who brought up the ongoing attacks on Jeff Sessions from President Trump.
Cavuto brought this up after discussing the White House’s agenda, noting how Republicans aren’t happy about Trump attacking his own Attorney General.
“I wasn’t part of their discussions early on,” McDaniel said. “But I think the president feels like if Jeff Sessions knew that he was going to recuse himself, that’s something he should have let the president know. That should have gone into the president’s decision making.”
Cavuto pointed out that whole process “developed later” and that everyone he’s talked to said recusal was the right move. McDaniel said we don’t know if Sessions and Trump spoke earlier on about issues related to recusal.
She added that “the President’s a fighter,” but Cavuto said he should just fire Sessions then. He added, “He’s humiliating the guy.”
“He’s letting him know that he’s not happy,” she responded. “There’s things I’m sure he’s happy with, too.”
Cavuto concluded the segment by saying if Trump has a problem with Sessions, he should tell it to his face instead of tweeting it. McDaniel said, “He may be, we don’t know.”
